Armenian-American singer to be proud of
Do you believe in life after love
I can feel something inside me say
I really don’t think you’re strong enough
If you are familiar with these words then you are likely to know one of the most nominated singers in the USA, Cher. She was born in 1946 in El Centro, California, US. Her mother, Georgia Holt, was an occasional model and bit-part actress, and her father, John Sarkisian, interestingly enough, was an Armenian-American truck driver with drug and gambling problems. Cher’s birth name was Cherilyn Sarkisian, accordingly she has Armenian roots which she never denied.
In May 1993, Cher, took a three-day trip to Armenia. She brought 45 tons of medical supplies, books, printing equipment, candy and toys.
“I want to bring a face to the name Armenian,” she then said.
Cherilyn Sarkisian is undoubtedly one of those great people who forget about their origin no matter how famous they are; moreover, they stand by the country of their roots and contribute a lot to it. Being a daughter of an Armenian-American man, she is a true Armenian and is there for Armenia and Armenians. So the country and the nation will always be thankful to her.
