Ayrum (granted with status of town since 1995) located at a road distance of 205 km northeast of Yerevan and 60 km of provincial center Ijevan. It is situated on the shores of river Debed.
Total area of community is around 1.3 km² and the number of population is around 1900 people (2017).
A part of the citizens of the town are those Armenians, whose ancestors had arrived from suburbs of Yerevan, Archis and Russia.
The town is adjacent to the station, the community is mostly engaged in retail trade. There are public and music school.
During excavations, conducted in mount Satani, located west of Ayrum, was found tomb field dating back to the period between the 10th and 7th centuries BC. It were found earthenware crockery, metallic spears, poniards, bronze jewelry. Near fortress were found sculptures of human, horse, steer and etc.
